ZVEZDA 9035 1:350 K-3 November Class Nuclear Submarine

The K-3 Leninskij Komsomol (project 627) was a Soviet nuclear powered fighter submarine (ANN). The ship was placed under the keel in 1955, the launch took place in August 1957, and the entry into service - in July 1958. The ship was 109.7 m long, 9.1 m wide, and had a displacement of about 3,990 tons. The maximum underwater speed is approximately 25 knots. The ship had eight 533 mm torpedo tubes.

The K-3 Leninskiy Komsomol was the first nuclear-powered submarine in the history of the Soviet Navy. She was also the first Soviet submarine to reach the North Pole. Work on a new submarine for the USSR Navy lasted from the turn of the 1940s and 1950s, but accelerated after the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953. Work was carried out at a very high pace after that year to catch up with the US Navy, which had the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) since 1954. Finally, a ship was created with a traditional hull shape, modeled on earlier units, capable of reaching a test depth of 300 meters. However, the pace of work had an impact on the quality of the K-3, which suffered from numerous failures and shortcomings - especially of the propulsion system. It was also very loud. Nevertheless, for all its shortcomings, it marked a quantum leap in the development of Soviet submarine weapons.
