ZVEZDA 9027 1:350 Russian Battle Cruiser "Borodino"

Borodino was a Russian battleship (the so-called pre-dreadnought), under which the keel was laid in 1900 at the Admiralty Shipyard in St. Petersburg, launched in September 1901, and entered service in the Russian Navy in 1904. The length of the ship was 121 m, width 23.2 m, and a displacement of about 14,000 tons. The maximum speed was up to 18 knots. The main armament consisted of four 305 mm guns, and the secondary armament consisted of, among others, 12 152 mm guns and 20 75 mm guns.

Borodino was the first of five battleships belonging to the class of units of the same name. The battleships of this type were designed and constructed to strengthen the Russian fleet stationed in the Far East and were intended to counter, above all, the newly built Japanese battleships. Units of this type were generally well armed, and the placement of 152 mm artillery in rotating turrets rather than casemates positively differed from many other ships of the time. They were also well armored and had good performance. Their serious drawback was their poor seaworthiness and stability - especially on high waves. Generally, they were average ships, giving way in some fields to the newest British structures or Japanese ships built in Great Britain. Unfortunately, the history of battleship Borodino is very short. In August 1904 it was commissioned under the command of Captain Piotr Serebrennikov and almost immediately sent to the Far East as part of the 2nd Pacific Squadron. After circumnavigating Africa and crossing the Indian Ocean, the Russian Squadron reached the vicinity of Tsushima Island in May 1905, where one of the most famous naval battles of the 20th century took place. During its course, the battleship Borodino was sunk on May 27, 1905 in the evening hours.
