| The Tupolev SB-2 was a Soviet light bomber from World War II. The machine was built in a mid-wing configuration with a classic retractable undercarriage. The flight of the aircraft took place in 1934, and its production was carried out in the years 1935-1939 or 1941. In total, about 6,600-6900 aircraft of this type were created. The drive - in the SB-2 / M-103 version - was provided by two Klimow M-103 engines with a power of 960 HP each. The on-board armament of the aircraft consisted of four 7.62 mm SzKAS machine guns. The machine could also carry bomb loads of up to 600 kilograms. The Tupolev SB-2 was designed as a fast front-line bomber, with a lot of emphasis on performance - especially top speed.
In the course of production, many development versions of the aircraft were created, among which we can mention: SB-2 / M-100A (version with 860 HP engines each), SB-2bis (main production series) or SB-2 / M- 103 (version with engines of 960 HP each). During the service, efforts were also made to strengthen the defensive armament of the aircraft. SB-2 bombers in various versions took part in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), the Winter War with Finland (1939-1940) and the first period of the war with Germany (1941-1945). |
