The Horten Ho 229A was a flying wing made of plywood with jet engines that was intended to be used as a light bomber (and later also) as a fighter. The first prototype was a glider without engines. The second prototype already had the planned jet engines, but was lost during a test. The third prototype was captured by the American forces towards the end of the war, almost completed. This example can still be seen today in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. |
