The Sukhoi Su-30 is a modern Russian multirole fighter with significant air combat capabilities. The prototype first flew in 1989, and the aircraft entered production in 1996. Over 630 aircraft of this type were built during the production run. The basic version is powered by two Saturn AL.-31F engines with 74.5 kN of thrust each. The aircraft is 21.94 meters long, with a wingspan of 14.7 meters. Maximum speed reaches Mach 2. Onboard armament consists of a single 30 mm cannon. The aircraft can also carry a payload of booms and missiles on external pylons, weighing up to 8,000 kilograms.
The Sukhoi Su-30 was developed based on the airframe and fuselage of the Su-27UB. Originally, it was envisioned as an air superiority fighter with advanced electronic equipment, designed to operate alongside the MiG-31. However, economic problems related to the collapse of the USSR forced the manufacturer to adapt the Su-30 to other missions and offer it primarily for export markets. Numerous versions of the aircraft were developed during production, including the Su-30K (the basic version, exported to India), the Su-30MK (a version with improved communications systems), the Su-30MKI (a version developed jointly with HAL with improved aerodynamics), and the Su-30SM (a plane with improved maneuverability, primarily intended for air superiority). Aircraft of this type have served, or continue to serve, in the armed forces of countries such as Algeria, China, and India. |
