The KJ-500 is an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) plane developed by China. It is based on the Y-9 transport plane and is designed to provide early warning and surveillance capabilities for the Chinese military.
The KJ-500 is equipped with a radar system that can detect and track a wide range of targets, including planes, ships, and ground vehicles. It can also be used for air defense control, tactical airlift, and search and rescue missions. The plane has a crew of six, including a pilot, a copilot, and four radar operators.
The KJ-500 is powered by two WJ-6C turboprop engines and has a range of approximately 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles). It has a takeoff weight of around 60 tons and can reach an altitude of 10,000 meters (33,000 feet).
The KJ-500 has been in service with the Chinese military since 2014 and has been used in some military exercises and operations. It is considered a significant improvement over earlier Chinese AEW&C planes and has been praised for its capabilities and reliability. |
