The Douglas DC-6 was an American all-metal low-wing passenger and transport aircraft. The drive was provided by four Pratt and Whitney R-2800-CB17 radial engines with a power of 2536 HP each. The flight of the prototype took place in February 1946, and serial production was carried out in the years 1946-1959. About 700 aircraft of this type were built in its course.

The DC-6 was manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Corporation as a far-reaching development of another aircraft manufactured by the aviation manufacturer - the DC-4. The changes mainly concerned the elongation of the fuselage, enlargement of the wingspan, the use of completely new engines and slightly improved performance. The DC-6 competed on the civilian market with the Lockheed Constellation. In the course of serial production, several development versions of the DC-6 were created, among others: DC-6A (transport version, which was used by USAAF under the designation C-118 Lifmaster) or DC-6C (transport-passenger version).
